A brand new event has been added to the Orleans Dogwood Festival schedule. Dogwood Idol will be holding auditions on Saturday, April 17th from 8 a.m. - noon at the Orleans Elementary School gym. Dogwood Idol will focus on entertainment value. Ten finalists will be selected to compete on Monday, April 26th at 7:30 p.m. at the stage on Veteran's Way during the Dogwood Festival complete with celebrity judges. The auditions are open to participants of all ages from Orange and surrounding counties. Accompaniment music may be live or recorded and may be an original work or a previously recorded track but must be provided by the participant. Songs should be four minutes or less in length and not contain profane or offensive lyrics. Each contestant is asked to have a 30 second or less introduction. Event organizers are also searching for the best rendition of "Pants on the Ground" and one or two other "show stoppers" to make Dogwood Idol complete. For more information call festival chairwoman Tara Jenkins at 812.865.3484.
